Scientific and Industrial Cluster Life Science Krakow
On October 20th 2006, professor Karol Musioł, vice-chancellor of Jagiellonian University in Krakow and representatives of more than 10 companies and scientific institutions signed in the Collegium Maius of the Jagiellonian University the agreement regarding the creation of Scientific and Industrial Cluster of Life Science Krakow. One of its founders is the company IBSS BIOMED S.A. Among the founder members are also Agricultural Academy, The John Paul II Hospital, The Oil and Gas Institute, PAN (Polish Acedemy of Sciences) Institute of Pharmacology and the pharmaceutical company Pliva. Worth mentioning is the fact that the letter of intent in favour of creating the cluster has been signed by Krakow municipal authorities and Marshall Office.

Cluster is a method of integrating companies, institutions and societies from one field. Thanks to internal competition, rapid exchange of information, mutual assistance and common undertakings, clusters are a perfect way of economic development. Long-term objective of Scientific and Industrial Cluster of Life Science Krakow, is making Cracow to the biggest industrial and scientific biotechnology centre in Central and Eastern Europe, resulting in creation of new companies, dynamic development of research, and attracting investors. It should be stressed that the creation of Life Science Cluster will probably help to receive funds from EU for the years 2007-2013.
